Why is insect protein so good for your dog and the planet?
Insect protein. What does it conjure up for you?
Maybe images of spiders in a bowl or that backpacking trip to Thailand. We get it, there’s a gross factor.….and it’s new and maybe feels a bit freaky….
But getting protein from insects is not that new, in fact more than 2,100 insect species are currently eaten by two billion people from 130 countries.
Both the UN and CSIRO have backed edible insect protein as a key part of how we meet a 70% increase in global demand for human food, more sustainably. It is expected the worldwide edible insect market is expected to reach $1.4 billion AUD in value by 2023. It seems like it’s just a matter of time before we are all throwing some insect protein into that morning smoothie…
So why is the insect protein in Grubbo so great for dogs?
The Black Soldier Fly larvae meal we include in our Grubbo is specially farmed by our expert partners at Bardee to the specific high-value nutritional profile dogs need - rich in protein, fibre, amino acids and minerals like iron, zinc, magnesium and calcium.
We then balance this super ingredient with wholesome premium grain free ingredients (like fava beans, carrots, mackerel oil, sweet potato and chia seeds) as well as extra vitamins so your dog will not only be an eco-warrior, but one with a happy tummy, shiny coat, bright eyes, healthy joints and a waggy tail.
Plus there’s no nasties, as our protein is raised without the needs for toxic chemicals and antibiotics.
Our grubs require a fraction of environmental resources to produce, are sustainably and vertically farmed in inner Melbourne, using a fraction of the land mass, water and CO2 of meat protein.
As they grow they are fed a diet of quality Australian fruit and veg that would otherwise end up in landfill, removing even more Co2 in the process. Plus the whole insect is used in the final meal, so no waste there either. Clever grubbos!
Meat is the number one bad guy when it comes to digestion problems. For dogs with sensitivities, our grubs are much easier to digest. Which means no more runny number 1’s but you’ll need to find someone else to blame for the fart smells…
Lastly, dogs just love the taste! Even the fussy ones. We can’t wait for you to try Grubbo for yourself and see, our new batch is coming soon!
